A staple of most protestant churches mission during the summer, at least in the Midwest, is the Vacation Bible School. This typically ranges from a one-day adventure to a whole week in an effort to give children the joy of learning about Jesus.
In July of 2015, the congregations of Trinity United Methodist Church and St. James United Methodist Church hosted a three day Vacation Bible School. Participants included many regular attendees from St. James's Sunday worship services, regular attendees from Trinity's Sunday and Tuesday worships, and several children from the daycare at St. James Kids' Club.
This children's ministry marked the first witnessing mission of the Trinity/St. James Intentional Cooperative Parrish. The planning team consisted of two members from Trinity and approximately eight members from St. James.
The successes included the engagement of students and crew leaders during Music & More, Bible Adventures, Projects with a Purpose, and Outback games.
At the follow-up meeting, it was decide that each congregation would have a co-chair for the VBS during the summer of 2016 and that the dates would be July 19, 20, and 21st. So if you have a child in the Northwest Neighborhood of Cedar Rapids, save the date for some fun adventures the evenings of Tuesday, July 19 through Thursday, July 21, 2016.
